In Russia, over the past day, 33,389 new cases of COVID-19 were detected. This was announced on Thursday, December 2, by the operational headquarters for combating the disease.
Most of all new cases in the last 24 hours were recorded in Moscow (3805), St. Petersburg (2623) and the Moscow region (1475).
Over the past day, 1,221 patients have died from complications of the coronavirus. 35,185 citizens have fully recovered.
In total, to date, since the beginning of the pandemic, 9,703,107 cases of coronavirus have been detected in 85 regions in Russia. Over the entire period, 8,400,117 people recovered.
Earlier that day, the virologist, molecular biologist, RAS Corresponding Member Sergei Netesov suggested that the effectiveness of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against the new Omicron COVID-19 strain would be high. According to him, the effectiveness of drugs against Omicron will be measured for several more months.
On December 1, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that all services are ready to take measures in connection with the threat of the proliferation of Omicron. He added that the Russian government is already preparing a list of measures to counter the spread of the new strain.
The Russian authorities urge citizens to get vaccinated in order to protect their health and take care of their loved ones. Russians are vaccinated for free. Five vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVac.
