Over the past day, 12,753 patients with COVID-19 have been hospitalized in Russia. This was announced on Tuesday, March 1, by the operational headquarters for the fight against coronavirus.
The number of cases detected per day was 97,333. The largest number was recorded in St. Petersburg (3421), Moscow (2066) and the Moscow region (1175). 172,813 people recovered, 786 patients died.
In total, 16,495,369 cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Russia since the start of the pandemic. The number of recovered is 13,748,465, 352,446 people died from the consequences of the disease.
The day before, an immunologist, candidate of medical sciences Nikolai Kryuchkov told Izvestia that March would be a key period in the situation with the spread of coronavirus. According to the expert, the situation with new cases of COVID-19 is now stabilizing in Moscow. As Kryuchkov pointed out, in April and May, as well as in the summer season, the epidemiological situation will improve significantly.
Also on Monday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the coronavirus situation in the capital had more or less returned to normal. He noted that medical services will continue to work as planned.
At the same time, Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, pointed out on February 27 that the danger of COVID-19 remains. He noted that, despite the decrease in the incidence, mortality rates are growing and the danger remains, so it is necessary to continue to be vaccinated against coronavirus infection.
The Russian Federation is undergoing a large-scale vaccination campaign. Citizens are vaccinated for free. Six vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, which became the first vaccine against COVID-19 in the Russian Federation and the world, as well as Sputnik Light, Sputnik M, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVac .
