The film Khorfakkan, written by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and produced by the Sharjah Radio and Television Authority in 2020, continues to win the most important awards at international film festivals.
The film won the Golden Award for Best Narrative Drama at the Best Istanbul Film Festival for the current session, July 2022, after competing with a large number of international films in this category among 15 other categories at the festival, which is considered one of the most important art and film festivals. In Istanbul, which is documented on the world famous movie website IMDB.
The Khorfakkan film won the Best Historical Film award at the “Brussels Film Festival”, an international festival whose competitions contain more than 35 categories for feature films, in addition to annual live shows. It is certified by the global film industry websites IMDB and filmfreeway. The festival is held annually at the “Topos” business center in the Belgian capital.
Last June, Khorfakkan film won 3 awards at the “Athvikvaroni International Film Festival” in India, which are the Best Asian Film Award, Best Cinematography Award and Best Director Award for Asian Film, among a large number of international films participating in the festival, which competed for the award Awards and titles in more than 40 categories, titles and awards.
The Khorfakkan movie is considered the most important production of the Sharjah Radio and Television Authority, and it came in cooperation with Jet Joe Films Limited, directed by the Irish Maurice Sweeney and the British Ben Moll, in which more than 300 people participated between the cast and production operations. All stages of filming took place on the beaches, farms, mountains and old city of Khorfakkan, and the filming process was taken by the Irish director of international photography, Richard Kendrick.
The film embodies the historical epic of the resistance of the people of Khorfakkan to the Portuguese invasion in 1507 AD, and the events and battles that followed.
A selection of Arab and local actors participated in the casting of this huge cinematic work, most notably the Syrian actor Rashid Assaf in the role of Portuguese commander Afonso de Albuquerque, and the Syrian actors Qais Sheikh Najib and Qassem Malho. Among the most prominent local actors: Ahmed Al Jasmi, Muhammad Al-Amiri, the late Hamid Simbij, Dr. Habib Ghuloom, Mansour Al-Faili, Abdullah bin Haider, Abdul Rahman Al-Mulla, Muhammad Jumaa, Ashjan, Bodour and the two children Abdul Rahman Al-Marqab and Abdullah Al-Jarn.
The film is currently shown on the flights of a number of national and Gulf airlines, in addition to the digital platform of the Sharjah Radio and Television Authority “Maraya”.
