From July 1, Germany will lift the travel warning for corona risk areas across the board. This also applies to Italy, Greece and Austria. In contrast, there is a catch with a holiday country.
Munich / Berlin – It is the next excitement in the coronavirus pandemic: From Thursday, July 1, Germany will lift the general travel warning for all risk areas during the corona crisis. Last but not least, this applies to popular travel destinations. This step comes right on time for the summer holidays, which have already started in Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (since June 21), Berlin, Brandenburg and Hamburg (since June 24).
Vacation in the corona pandemic: Popular travel destinations are no longer risk areas
“The time of blanket assessments must be over,” said Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas (SPD) on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Italian Matera (Basilicata region): “Where there are positive developments, there is no reason to maintain restrictions.”
The federal government had already decided almost three weeks ago to lift the travel warning for all risk areas with more than 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days (seven-day incidence) on July 1st. This affects more than 80 countries worldwide. In addition, the government no longer wants to generally advise against tourist trips abroad.

Among the countries that will no longer be risk areas from July 1, Italy (including Lake Garda), Greece and Austria are popular holiday destinations for Germans despite the spread of the Corona Delta variant. Large parts of Spain are no longer risk areas either. As of Wednesday afternoon (June 30), Andalusia, Navarra, La Rioja, Ceuta and the Basque Country were still classified as low-risk areas by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) because of Covid-19.
Vacation in the corona pandemic: Austria and Italy – popular travel destinations are loosening up massively
The German easing also punctually leads to far-reaching openings and measures in other countries. Neighbor Austria opens everything on July 1st, even discos and nightclubs without contact restrictions. Italy, on the other hand, lifted the mask requirement outdoors and the last applicable regional curfew on June 28. Despite the delta variant and warning words from SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach, nothing stands in the way of the summer vacation in the corona pandemic due to the EM 2021 – as of the end of June, beginning of July.
