With the publication of new previews and interviews with the developers of Monster Hunter Wilds some interesting information is emerging about the highly anticipated new chapter of the Capcom series. For example, we learned that some categories of weapons in particular they will suffer major changes compared to the others, it being understood that they will all present new moves linked to the mechanics introduced in this chapter.
This was confirmed by Kaname Fujioka, executive director and art director of Wilds, who in an interview with IGN Nordic revealed that hunters will notice important changes for Heavy Crossbow, Light Crossbow and Hunting Horn.
Does the Hunting Horn return to the origins of World?
When asked if in Wilds we will see weapons that will undergo major changes, similar to the rework done for the Hunting Horn in Monster Hunter Rise, Fujioka replied:
“Yes, if I had to answer briefly, it’s the two types of firearms,” Fujioka said. “The Light Crossbow and Heavy Crossbow have received some of the largest action changes, as has the Hunting Horn. The Hunting Horn returned to World’s base during the action, but in addition to this it introduced many other changes. We hope you can’t wait to try them.”
Unfortunately Fujioka has not added further details and therefore we just have to wait to find out more. A large part of the community has long believed that the two types of crossbows are usually the weapons with which it is easier to conclude hunts in the series, either due to their firepower or the secondary effects of the bullets, so the developers could have in mind some changes to make them less prominent in the meta, but this is just a guess.
Also interesting is the question of the Hunting Horn. As previously mentioned this weapon had already undergone a rework from Monster Hunter World to Rise, becoming much faster in terms of moveset and less based on positioning, at the same time simplifying the management of the limited-time upgrades of the melodies, a specific mechanic of this weapon. Fujioka speaks precisely of a return to the dynamics of World, which could be sensible considering that the pace of the action of Wilds seems slower than that of Rise, where the choice to speed up this peculiar hunting tool seemed sensible. We’ll see.
In the meantime, if you haven’t already done so, we suggest you read our preview of Monster Hunter Wilds after seeing the game in action in a closed-door presentation.
