Three decades without Ayrton
Just over thirty years ago, on May 1, 1994, Ayrton Senna was the victim of a fatal accident during the first laps of the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola. A violent impact against the protective barriers at the curve of Tambourine which left Formula 1 orphaned of one of its greatest champions ever, as well as one of the most loved even today by fans both for his undeniable talent and his atypical and reserved, but at the same time generous, personality.
The initiatives
Three decades after his death, there have been numerous tributes to Formula 1 and above all to McLaren (team with which he won his three world titles) wanted to dedicate to ‘Magic’: from the livery used in Monaco which recalled the colors of his helmet to the laps completed by Sebastian Vettel at the wheel of the 1993 McLaren MP4/8, the last one Senna drove before his move to Williams the following year.
Another icon on the track
Now, about the program “Senna Always”other events will be organized in memory of the Brazilian on the occasion of Sao Paulo Grand Prixscheduled from 1st to 3rd November on the circuit of Interlagoslocated in Senna’s hometown. On the same track where ‘Magic’ won in two editions (a particularly memorable one in 1991 and 1993) other demonstration laps will take place, this time with the McLaren MP4/5Bthe same one with which Senna won the title in 1990.
An event that will come to life thanks to a collaboration between the Woking team and Honda, even if specific details such as the driver who will take the car to the track have not yet emerged. Further information will be revealed on the official website of the Sao Paulo GP.
