At the moment, Ukraine is fully prepared to join NATO. The speaker of the Kiev delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) on the settlement of the conflict in Donbass and adviser to the head of the Ukrainian president’s office Alexei Arestovich spoke about this on the air of the Nash TV channel, reports RIA News…
According to him, although Kiev is technically 100 percent ready, a political decision is also required. Arestovich noted that there are only “three or four” members among the NATO member states that fully meet all the requirements of the alliance.
In addition, the Ukrainian diplomat stressed that Ukraine is entering NATO not as a supplicant with an outstretched hand, but as a huge force. He said that Ukraine could become the “fourth force” in terms of military power in the alliance, surpassing most of the NATO countries, in addition to the United States, Turkey and France, at least in terms of the land component. Arestovich did not clarify by what criterion he made this rating.
Earlier, the former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Nadezhda Savchenko called NATO “expensive apartments”, which Ukraine cannot afford at the moment. According to Savchenko, there is a category of military who wish to join NATO and want the same uniforms, clothing, security and salaries as in the alliance. She noted that most of these people “do not want to fight themselves,” and called this vision of the situation primitive.
