Firefighters and the military removed the bodies of three dead from under the wreckage of the Ukrainian An-12, and, presumably, found a black box. This was announced on Sunday, July 17, by the TV channel sky news.
“According to the head of the munitions disposal unit, the bodies of seven of the eight crew members of the Ukrainian An-12 that crashed on Saturday have been found,” the report says.
Three bodies have been recovered so far.
“An object was also found that may be the aircraft’s black box,” the channel said.
Pangeo Region Mayor Philippos Anastasiades noted earlier in the day that drones had located six of the eight bodies, and the search for the other two was ongoing.
“The bodies of the crew members will be delivered for a forensic medical examination to Komotini, and after that they will be transferred there to the diplomatic representatives of Ukraine in Greece,” he said.
The Ukrainian plane crashed on Saturday, July 16. Initially it was reported that he was on a flight from Serbia to Jordan. It was also reported that the An-12 aircraft that crashed in Greece was carrying defense products from Serbia to Bangladesh.
It is known that the aircraft’s engines failed, after which the pilot asked the controller for permission for an emergency landing. After being cleared to land at the Kavala airport, the trace of the aircraft disappeared from radar screens 10 nautical miles west of the city.
