Russian President Vladimir Putin has brought down gas prices in Europe with one phrase. Writes about this in German edition Welt.
The newspaper recalled that Putin instructed Gazprom to start increasing the volume of fuel in European underground gas storage facilities, and the head of the company, Alexei Miller, assured him that the concern would do just that. After that, the Russian leader ordered to inform him about the progress of this process. The authors of the publication note that this “almost accidental remark” by Putin influenced the entire European market and allowed the countries of Europe to “breathe a sigh of relief.” It is emphasized that immediately after the statement by the President of Russia, gas futures prices in the Netherlands fell by 15 percent.
The US also welcomed Russia’s decision to increase gas supplies to Europe. This was stated by Amos Hochstein, senior adviser on global energy security at the State Department. “I was glad when I heard the words [президента России Владимира] Putin that they will be able to fill storage facilities in Europe on November 8, I just would like it to happen on October 8, ”Hochstein said and added that the EU should reduce the consumption of Russian gas. Even though Russia will remain a major supplier, it is necessary, he said, to find other sources in order to be sufficiently independent.
On October 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Gazprom to start filling European storage facilities after Russian ones. Work on pumping gas into Russian storage facilities will be completed by November 8, said the head of the company, Alexey Miller. Against the backdrop of these statements, gas prices in Europe began to fall – on October 29, they fell by more than ten percent.
