The withdrawal of allied troops from Krasny Liman demonstrates the success of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), but will not be able to turn the tide of hostilities on a large scale. It is reported on October 2 Deutsches Zentrum Kiev with reference to German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht.
“This is a great success, but not a turning point,” said the head of the department.
She expressed the opinion that the conflict in Ukraine will drag on for several more months.
Earlier, on October 1, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, said that the allied forces were withdrawn from Krasny Liman to more advantageous lines due to the threat of encirclement.
The next day, Konashenkov said that the Russian army had attacked units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Krasnoliman direction. In the area of the settlement of Yampolovka of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the losses of the enemy amounted to more than 200 military personnel, 320 wounded, 10 tanks and 25 infantry fighting vehicles were destroyed by units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he specified.
On Saturday, military observer Viktor Litovkin called the decision to withdraw allied forces from Krasny Liman beneficial, since it is pointless to continue hostilities when there is a threat of encirclement.
Military expert Dmitry Boltenkov explained to Izvestia that from a military point of view, the withdrawal of Russian troops from Krasny Liman is not a defeat. Over the course of several weeks, the Ukrainian forces suffered serious losses from the allied forces. In order to compensate them, VFU were even forced to withdraw reserves from other directions, he explained.
The special military operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, continues. The decision to hold it was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military, in connection with which the authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics turned to Moscow for help.
