Genoa – With the blessing of Don Marco Granara, rector of the Sanctuary, they will start from the churchyard in front of the church, on a path that will see them busy for hours between steep paths and obstacles to overcome. I’m in 165, from Italy and the world, ready to compete on Saturday and Sunday in the Wild Woods Extremand the extreme enduro race now in its third edition. Many of them are champions, others are a little less so but they are not afraid of confrontation and want to test themselves.
«We leave on Saturday, at one in the afternoon, for qualifying. Based on the qualifications, the starting grids for Sunday’s race will be established ”, explains Sergio Parodi, organizer and soul of the tournament. Sunday 18 the race the race will start at nine in the morning and will go on until six in the evening. “It will be divided into categories, the winner is whoever manages to complete the highest number of rings in the two and a half hours available”.
The tour starts from Sanctuary of the Madonna della Guardia and continues inside the ProPark, where the race takes place along a route of about seven kilometers. The champions come from nine different nations. For Italy, Sonny Goggia, Alessandro Azzalini, Michele Bosi and the Genoese Emanuele Sartini will compete among others. The age of the participants ranges from about 16 to 55 years. “There is room for everyone. Those who are very strong cover the seven kilometers of the ring in twelve minutes, those who are less strong take a day ». After competing in the seventies and eighties, Parodi devoted himself to school and raised many motorcyclists. In the nineties, together with a group of friends, he built piece by piece a permanent field for motocross, in the middle of the Scarpino-Fossa Luea woods.
For the public, the highlight of the Wild Woods Extreme, perhaps even more than Sunday’s race, is Saturday evening, from half past eight, for the night obstacle course. Parodi promises fun: «With the illuminated ProPark, it will be a show for everyone».
