Colombia wants change in its political destiny. What needs to be known now is where that change is headed. The second round of the presidential elections this Sunday pits the leftist Petro against the populist Rodolfo Hernández, who some call the “Colombian Trump.” The polls are very tight and it is almost impossible to see a clear trend.
Petro topped the list of the first round results, but it seemed that his vote ceiling was close to that 40%, while Rodolfo had more ground to grow. What are the keys to the second electoral round? How do you explain the phenomenon of the rise of the populist Rodolfo Hernández with his simple and visceral speech? We analyze it in this edition of En Primera Plana together with our guests:
– Christophe Ventura, research director at the IRIS Institute, specialized in Latin America.
– Yali Sequeira, coordinator of the France-Colombia Solidarities network at the School for Peace and animator in France for the Let’s Go for Peace program.
– Camille Boutron Researcher at the Strategic Research Institute of the Military School in the field ‘Defense and society’. She has worked on the role of women in peacebuilding.
