A German couple have been arrested in Croatia for leaving their two young daughters and their dog in a locked car in sweltering heat, the country’s police said on Sunday.
The event occurred in the coastal town of Porec in northern Croatia, the country’s police said in a statement. They added that bystanders saw the minors in the vehicle with German plates and alerted the authorities.
The local press claimed that the minors who were locked in the car were 6 and 8 years old.
According to the police report, the couple had gone shopping and left their two daughters in the car. The little girls received medical treatment for dehydration and the dog is being cared for.
The mother and her partner, both 28 years old, They were arrested Saturday and face charges of violation of children’s rights and abuse of animals.
