Los Mochis, Sinaloa.- The Deputy from Guerrero for the National Regeneration Movement MORENA party, Marben de la Cruz Santiago, president of the Commission of Indigenous and Afro-Mexican Peoples of the Congress of the state of Guerrero, offered at the Municipal Palace of Ahome press conference where he addressed various issues related to his legislative representation.
Invited by the councilor from Ahomena, also from MORENA, Judith Elena Luna Castro, the legislator spoke about the Vindication of the rights of the Afro-Mexican population in Mexico, Sinaloa and Ahome; The commemoration in a historical way for the first time in Sinaloa and Ahome of the Day of Afro-descendant Women on July 25 and; The integration in Sinaloa and Ahome of the Network of Indigenous and Afro-descendant Women.
De la Cruz Santiago said that the main objective of his visit is to generate synergies with the governments of the Municipality of Ahome and the State of Sinaloa, to standardize local legislation with that of the Federation, to include in the Laws, Regulations, Commissions and Indigenous Affairs Units, to the Afro-descendant population, and change the word Affairs for Peoples, as well as to promote the visibility of these women.
During the dissertation, the legislator from Guerrero and the host Ahomean councilor were accompanied by the Ombudsman Cecilia Hernández, the Director of Indigenous Peoples Silvina Valenzuela, the councilors Laura Valdez, Ofelia Rodríguez and Marysol Morales.
Elizabeth Rentería Osuna, President of the Network of Indigenous and Afro-descendant Women of Sinaloa, was also present.
It was reported that in Sinaloa there is an indigenous population of around 300,000 people, of which only 35,000 speak one of the 4 indigenous languages: Mayo-Yoreme (12,000), Nahuatl (7,800), Mixteco (3 1,800) and Zapotec (2,700); and of the 300 thousand people, 42 thousand 196 define themselves as Afro-descendants located in the municipalities of Navolato, Culiacán, Mazatlán, Guasave and Ahome, according to data from INEGI 2020.

For the commemoration of the Day of Afro-descendant Women in Sinaloa on July 25, an event is included in the Municipal Palace of Ahome, with the theme Resistance and resilience of Indigenous and Afro-descendant Women, with the participation of national experts on the subject. and international.
At the end of the dissertation, councilor Judith Luna made a commitment that she will lobby her fellow mayors, and Mayor Gerardo Vargas Landeros, to start in Ahome the process of changing the name of the Commission on Indigenous Affairs, to include the population Afro-descendant, and change the word Matters to Peoples.
