Due to the greater rise in prices in much of the interior of the country, while in Capital and GBA the basic basket of the poorest or indigent sectors of Capital and GBA increased in 2020 by 45.5%, as reported by INDEC, in Tucumán the increase was 54.4% and in Mendoza 52%, according to the measurements of their Provincial Statistical Institutes.
Meanwhile, in the City of Buenos Aires the basic food basket increased the 43.9%, sAccording to the Department of Statistics and Censuses of Buenos Aires.
Thus, crossing General Paz and the Riachuelo, inflation hit even more the poorest sectors than the porteños indigents and anticipates a new rise in indigence and poverty when the data for the second half of last year are released.
In all cases, the increase in the values of the basic food basket greatly exceeded the national average inflation of the 36.1%.
In Tucumán the average inflation was 33.9%, from which it can be inferred that the inflation of the indigent in Tucumán exceeded it by 20.5 points. In Mendoza, average inflation was 36%, thus exceeding it by 16 points. In Capital and GBA, at 11.4 points.
It is discounted that something similar happened in the northern provinces that registered an average inflation of 38.1% the NOA and 42.2% the NEA higher than 36.1% of the national average.
Only in December “the monthly variation of the Basic Food Basket (CBA) with respect to the month of November was 8.79% in Tucumán while the variation of the Total Basic Basket (CBT) was 5.45%”, reported the Tucuman IPEC. In Mendoza, the basic food basket increased 8.3% in December, according to the DEIE.
The values of the basic baskets are used to measure both indigence and poverty. Consequently, it is discounted that these two social indicators jumped, especially over the end of last year. In the first semester of 2020, poverty was 40.9%, broken down into 34.8% in the first quarter and 47% in the second.
Thus, due to the higher incidence of food prices, inflation last year, as it has been happening with particular force in recent years, was furious and had greater adverse consequences for the people and families most in need. And in the basic food basket the food products that increased the most in prices and that weighed the most in the basic baskets predominate.
