IMF presents $650 billion bailout package
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has a $650 billion bailout package (547 billion euros) approved to limit the financial consequences of the corona pandemic around the world. It is the largest amount since the IMF was founded in 1944.
IMF director Kristalina Georgieva speaks in a statement of “a jab in the arm for the world”. According to her, it will help all countries in the world in their long-term recovery. She specifically mentions vulnerable countries, which are suffering badly from the corona crisis. Of the amount, $ 275 billion will go to emerging economies and poorer countries.
During the economic crisis in 2009, the IMF provided $250 billion in aid to restore the global economy. The amount made available now is more than twice as high.
