Imatra|A visual barrier from the cafe to the pool section has been desired at Imatra for a long time.
Imatran In the future, you will no longer be able to watch swimmers from the cafe in the swimming pool, because last week a protective film was taped on the windows between the cafe and the pool area to limit visibility.
A visual barrier from the cafe to the pool area has been desired for a long time, says the sports and wellness manager of the city of Imatra Henna Jääskeläinen.
The background is the desire to protect especially children and young people from prying eyes.
“The request has come especially from guardians, but also from other users of the swimming hall. The purpose is to increase everyone’s privacy and security,” says Jääskeläinen.
However, according to Jääskeläinen, it is not that the swimmers were subjected to anything inappropriate, such as disturbing staring or photography.
“It’s more about a preventive measure.”
Architect Einari Teräsvirtan designed and completed in 1966, the cafeteria of the Imatra swimming pool has had an unobstructed view of the pool section. According to Jääskeläinen, the vision protection adjusted to the seat height represents “today”.
“It is important for us to be a child-friendly municipality, where every child and young person feels that visiting the swimming hall is safe and pleasant,” says Jääskeläinen.
Jääskeläinen believes that adjusting the vision protection can even lower the threshold for children and young people to start swimming.
Some parents have supervised their children splashing in the pool from the cafeteria in the swimming hall. According to Jääskeläinen, the activities of the swimming schools can be followed from the swimming hall’s grandstand in the future. The safety of the customers in the pool section is monitored by trained staff.
