Film directed by Walter Salles and starring Fernanda Torres received 10-minute applause in Italy
The film “I’m Still Here”, by Walter Salles, won the award for best film this Saturday (7.Sep.2024) best script at the Venice Film Festival. The award was given to the feature film’s screenwriters, Murilo Hauser and Heitor Lorega.
“I’m Still Here” is based on the homonymous book written by Marcelo Rubens Paiva. In the work, he tells the story of his mother, Eunice Paiva, in search of more information about her husband’s disappearance during the military dictatorship in Brazil (1964-1985).
Rubens Paiva (1929-1971) was arrested in 1971. He was tortured and killed by the military. Eunice only obtained her husband’s death certificate in 1996. She is played in the film by Fernanda Torres, who has been nominated for an Oscar, and Fernanda Montenegro.
According to the website specializing in entertainment Deadline, “I’m Still Here” was applauded for 10 minutes after being shown at the Italian festival. The feature film directed by Salles is an exclusive production of Globoplay, Grupo Globo’s streaming platform.
The film will premiere in Brazil in 2024. There is no set date yet.
