The world of cinema has been shaken by the recent statement by David Lynch, the famous visionary director behind masterpieces such as Blue Velvet, The Elephant Man, Wild Heart And Mulholland Drive. Lynch, 78, revealed that he suffers from emphysema, a condition that forces him to live in isolation to avoid the risk of contracting diseases such as Covid-19.
The director told the magazine Sight and Sound:
“I smoked for a long time, that’s the reason, and now I’m forced to stay indoors, whether I like it or not. I can’t risk getting infected by the virus, nor catching a cold. I can only take short walks until I run out of oxygen.”
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Despite the difficulties, Lynch never stopped dreaming. His screenplay of Antelope Don’t Run No Moreready since 2010, has not yet seen the light. His latest film, Inland Empiredates back to 2006.
Lynch also shared his recent disappointment with Netflix rejecting his animated project Snootworldon which he had worked with Caroline Thompson, famous for titles such as Edward scissor hands And The Nightmare Before Christmas:
“I just recently thought it might be of some interest and I proposed it to Netflix, a few months ago, but no way: old-fashioned fairy tales are considered a bit weak and it is widely believed that they do not interest the public. The world has changed: today it is easier to say no than to say yes.”
Lynch’s statements have worried his fans, but the director immediately tried to reassure them with a post on X, thanking everyone who has been concerned about him. He assures that he is fine, emphysema aside, and that he does not intend to abandon the camera.

Fans can only hope that, despite the challenges, Lynch will still find a way to share his unique vision with the world.
