President of the Senate stated that he should talk to the minister by Wednesday and that the final decision will be made during the Congress recess
The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), said this Tuesday (9.Jan.2024) that he will not make any decision on whether or not to return the MP for the reinstatement without talking to the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad. Pacheco stated that he will speak with the minister until Wednesday (10 January) and that the final decision will be taken during the Congress recess.
“I completed an important step today, which was listening to the leaders. I'm going to talk to absent leaders in the afternoon. I will not make a decision without talking to Minister Fernando Haddad. I think dialogue between the Legislature and the Executive is important”he told journalists after the meeting with party leaders.
For Pacheco, it would be “very comfortable” to return the MP in full without first discussing a solution. However, the president of the Senate signaled that the section of the MP that deals with the gradual repayment of 17 sectors of the economy will not prosper in Congress.
“The government is willing to dialogue. Before editing the MP, Haddad called me and informed me about the text. But we have our limit. And I told him that a measure already discussed by Congress could cause political reactions.”he stated.
Pacheco spoke of the importance of dealing with public spending and that it cannot “go against the Executive's right to judicialize“.
