Ilaria Capua (Lapresse) and Anna Foglietta (Amazon) who plays her, albeit with another name, in the film based on her book
Here comes the film based on the book by Ilaria Capua: this is how it can fit into the race for the Colle
Monday 13 December debuts on Prime Video “Virus trafficker”, film directed by Costanza Quatriglio and with Anna Foglietta in the role of the protagonist. The script is based on “Me, virus trafficker”, the 2017 book in which Ilaria Capua tells of her dramatic judicial affair, which led her to lose her post as a member of parliament before being completely extraneous to the infamous accusations. The ever-watchful eye of the background artists has not escaped what may be just a coincidence, but certainly very curious. The film arrives on the Amazon platform while all the political leaders are negotiating on the election of the President of the Republic and ten days after the words of Giuseppe Conte on the subject, which today can be read in another light.
Conte: “I have a woman in mind for the Hill”
The leader of the Five Star Movement has in fact spoken openly about the possibility of a historic turning point in the choice of leadership of the country: “I would see well a woman at the Quirinale and in my head I have a profile that we can all be proud of, “he told The air that pulls. A female candidacy for the Colle would be a very strong signal, capable of compacting transversal consensus and overcoming the stalemate given by a very fragmented political framework. The names so far assumed – da Liliana Segre to Anna Finocchiaro, from Rosy Bindi to Emma Bonino, as far as Paola Severino And Marta Cartabia – however, they still seem far from the goal of bipartisan support. The identikit outlined by Conte could really dispel doubts. There is talk of a woman known and appreciated by the establishment, also for her sober ways, with experience as a parliamentarian and, which should not be overlooked, with a professional background of international standing which contributes to conferring authority on it, especially in a historical phase still deeply marked by the pandemic emergency. A portrait that fits perfectly to Ilaria Capua, which most Italians know for its frequent hosted in television broadcasts dedicated to Covid-19, but which has a much longer and more prestigious history behind it.
Ilaria Capua: from avian to Covid, an Italian excellence
Born in Rome on 21 April 1966, Ilaria Capua she is a highly regarded virologist. In 2006 his name went around the world following the decision to make the gene sequence of the virus ofbird flu, a move that gave a strong impetus toopen access to scientific contributions, with particular regard to influenza viruses. In the wake of these scientific achievements, in 2013 he entered Parliament with Scelta Civica, the political formation that Mario Monti he had built by drawing large hands on the world of professions. However, her parliamentary experience ended in 2016, when she was forced to resign following an investigation in which she was accused of very serious crimes. According to the accusatory hypothesis, together with other suspects Capua would have given life to a criminal association aimed at illicit virus trafficking and the illegal exploitation of patents for the production of vaccines against avian flu. These accusations were dismissed due to the non-existence of the disputed facts, but Italy still lost one of its most valid scientists, because Capua decided to move to Florida, where she continued her appreciated work. In a real retaliation, it was then “recalled” by the United States when the dramatic pandemic event threw Italy into a panic, pushing newspapers and TV broadcasts to the frantic search for authoritative figures to whom to ask their questions. And it is precisely in this way that most Italians have learned to familiarize themselves with the figure of the scientist.
His private life and female empowerment
Married to the Scotsman Richard John William Currie, former manager of Fort Dodge Animal in Aprilia (which produces veterinary vaccines), Ilaria is a cousin of Roberta Capua, who in 1986 was elected Miss Italy and who later had an appreciable career as a TV presenter. On the rest of her private life, the scientist is decidedly more reserved. A rare exception was the interview with The Corriere della Sera, in which he talked about the relationship with his daughter My, born in 2004 and well one meter and 80 high. Looking at the adolescents of today, Capua described them as “a hinge generation, our square roses: creatures full of perfume, petals, ripe; pillars of our society. They are stronger and freer than the generation that preceded them; they are those daughters that we began to grow up with the idea that they could become whatever. We raised our sons more by subtraction, telling them what not to do. We have set them some stakes that we have taken away from the girls ”. Stakes that, on the other hand, continue to be very present in politics, to the point that the election of a woman to the Quirinale (but also to Palazzo Chigi) would mark a historical turning point. Will Ilaria Capua break the crystal ceiling? Conte is thinking about it seriously. And not just him.
The political sense of the operation
Finding the square with an authoritative profile would serve both to intervene on the aforementioned gender issue and to try to reassure the souls of those (not many, by the way) who still contest the choices made in the fight against the pandemic. Above all, the agreement on a transversal figure would allow to leave Mario Draghi at Palazzo Chigi, thus reassuring the numerous “peons” who look with terror at the early elections, in the certainty that it would be the end of their parliamentary adventure. And, it is worth remembering, Conte is the leader of what is still the most represented force in Parliament, although the polls are far from those of the best of times.
