The 12h of Bathurst will return to the Intercontinental GT Challenge calendar in 2022 as the opening round of next season.
The Australian ‘classic’ was canceled in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it is still not entirely certain that it can actually be disputed because strict restrictions on travel to Oceania are still in place.
For this reason, the promoter SRO Motorsport has tried to postpone the event as much as possible, fixing it after mid-March instead of at the end of January, in order to give everyone time to prepare and organize themselves according to the evolution of the health situation.
The races in Spa-Francorchamps, Indianapolis and Kyalami have been confirmed, but we will not go to Japan for the 10h of Suzuka, both due to the difficulties on travel to Asia and because the local promoter had already said that he wanted to make this race valid for the national series, as it was in the past.
It is therefore not excluded that an alternative to the Japanese stage can be found, but for the moment SRO has published what is a four-round calendar.
Intercontinental GT Challenge – Calendar 2022
18-20 March: Bathurst 12h
July 28-31: 24h of Spa
7-9 October: Indianapolis 8h
24-26 November: 9h of Kyalami
