The Community of Madrid organizes the XIX Room for the Adoption of Pets, which is celebrated on October 26 and 27, for the fourth consecutive year on the Puente del Rey esplanade in the capital of Madrid (Madrid Río). The objective of this meeting, to which the regional Executive allocates 59,895.00 eurosis to promote responsible ownership and raise citizens’ awareness about the well-being of dogs and cats in their homes.
This event represents a great opportunity to promote the adoption of companion animals and their responsible ownership, with the support of public institutions and private companies committed to animal welfare.
A great display
This year’s edition will feature 50 tents, 18 for associations and public administrations, 28 intended to promote the adoption of dogs and another 4 for cats. In them you can talk with the experts, who offer advice and inform about the financial expenditure, time, food or health care that adopters must take into account. In the last ten years this fair has achieved an average of 250 adoptions, in addition to carrying out important work to raise awareness against abandonment. Last year a figure of 161 adoptions.
Unfortunately, the numbers of dog and cat abandonments are still far from decreasing. More than 286,000 dogs and cats They were collected in 2023, according to the Affinity Foundation’s 2024 Abandonment and Adoption Study. This is a worrying fact that confirms that abandonment continues to be a structural problem that requires greater intervention and cooperation from all the agents involved to reduce this figure and ensure the well-being of companion animals in our society.
Steps to follow
The doors to this event will be open between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27so that visitors can get to know the dogs and felines in the different spaces. Those interested will have the opportunity to see photographs and do virtual searches to choose the one that best suits their lifestyle. Later they can go to the center where they are to start the adoption procedure, if they are sure to take this step. The opening ceremony will be attended by Ángel de Oteo Mancebo, general director of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of the Community of Madrid.
Great presence
The Comprehensive Animal Shelter Center of the Community of Madrid (CIAAM) participates in this event, in which the Official College of Veterinarians of Madrid (COLVEMA) and the Protection Center of the City Council of the capital will also be present, as well as different collaborating entities of the regional Administration, to which the Madrid Executive has allocated aid worth 1,800,000 euros this year, for the maintenance of animals in shelters, among other activities to promote animal protection. Private companies such as Kiwoko and Tiendanimal. During these days, Kiwoko will offer a space to advise future adopters about the care of their new family members.
On the other hand, Tiendanimal will be present to advise adopters throughout the entire adoption process, offering guidance on all the necessary care that animals need for their well-being. Among its activities, it will inform interested parties about the responsible ownership educational program. Others that will also be present is the Noah’s Ark Foundation, which will be present with some dogs and cats looking for a home. This 19th edition of the Show for the Adoption of Pets represents a great opportunity to promote the adoption of pets and their responsible ownership, counting on the support of public institutions and private companies committed to animal welfare.
