“If Kalil were grateful, he wouldn’t turn his back on the PSD”, says Silveira

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira (PSD), said that the former mayor of Belo Horizonte Alexandre Kalil (Republicans) is “ungrateful“He made the statement after the convention that made the TV presenter’s name official. Mauro Tramonte (Republicans) in this year’s election, with the presence of the former mayor and the state governor, Romeo Zema (New).

Kalil refused to support Silveira’s former deputy, Fuad Noman (PSD), and left the party to ally with Tramonte.

“The PSD is a party that did everything for Kalil, even more than I thought it should have done. But it did and it knows it. Therefore, if it cultivated in its soul the noblest feeling of the human soul, which is the feeling of gratitude, it would not have turned its back on Mayor Fuad, but also on the party.“, said Silveira this Saturday (3.Aug.2024) during an interview in Contagem.

On the same stage this Saturday, Kalil and Zema were opponents in the dispute for the state government in 2022. According to Silveira, Kalil sought the alliance for “fear” of losing political relevance in the city.

“I want to remind you that he [Kalil] Zema took a beating in Belo Horizonte. He lost the election for governor and that’s why he worked hard to get Zema’s support. He was afraid of being defeated along with his candidate, so they formed a very opportunistic union“, he said.

Silveira is working with the federal government to renegotiate Minas Gerais’ debts. Still on the subject of the elections, he said that Kalil and Zema should take the issue to this year’s campaign.

“This is a good question that could even be asked today at the Republican convention with former mayor Kalil. How does he see the governor having increased Minas Gerais’ public debt by R$56 billion without paying a cent in the last 5 years, in an act of irresponsibility by someone who claimed to be an ally of the Bolsonaro government?”, he stated.

Kalil and Zema They sat at the same table and even greeted each other during the Republican convention. They have a long history of disagreements.

The dispute between the 2 for the government of Minas Gerais in 2022 was marked by several offenses. The dispute was won by the current president, with 56.18% of the votes.

Mauro Tramonte leads the polls for voting intentions for mayor of Belo Horizonte. He will run for the position alongside the vice mayor Luisa Barretoname confirmed during the convention.
