President says the country is “well” compared to others and defends relationship with Russia
The president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Thursday (7.Jul.2022) that the country would be “In the hole” if it weren’t for the government’s job. The chief executive said that the country is “well” when talking about the reduction in fuel prices. Bolsonaro also defended the relationship with Russia and declared that the sanctions applied by the United States and Europe “they didn’t work out”.
“Can you see how the world is doing, people, and how is Brazil doing? People are fine. All Gross Domestic Product forecasts have been revised upwards and not by us”, he said in a conversation with supporters in front of Palácio da Alvorada.
O BC (Central Bank) raised its GDP (Gross Domestic Product) growth estimate in 2022 to 1.7%. The previous projection, from March, was for a 1% increase in economic activity this year. “Brazil is no longer of the future, it is of the present. If it’s not me, this Brazil was already in the hole [sic]”, declared.
To supporters, Bolsonaro said he expected inflation to decrease with the drop in fuel prices. “There are many things that cannot be changed overnight. the fuels [estão] falling a lot. Nobody blames me now, right? Fuel goes down, inflation goes down too“, said.
RUSSIA
The president also spoke about the “line of balance” he adopted in relation to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He repeated that Brazil has Russian support for the sovereignty of the Amazon. On February 16, Bolsonaro had a meeting with Vladimir Putin in Moscow. At the meeting, he mainly dealt with the supply of fertilizers to Brazil.
After the start of the war in Europe, the Chief Executive announced that he would not take sides in the conflict. The dependence of Brazilian agribusiness on pesticides was one of the justifications.
“The economic barriers of the United States and Europe against Russia did not work. My line was balance. More than negotiating fertilizers, [também] food security for the world and the sovereignty of our Amazon“, said.
The Chief Executive also spoke about rising food prices in Europe and the cut in gas supplies from Russia. When comparing the international situation with the national one, he declared that Brazil has no shortage of supplies.
“Coincidentally, I just posted an article on my zap network about this issue of Russia with us and Russia with Europe and the United States. Outside they suffer from the very high inflation of food. They are suffering from a gas cut from Russia to Europe, cut 40% to Germany this week. We don’t have these problems here.”, he stated.
ELECTIONS
A pre-candidate for reelection, Bolsonaro told supporters to talk to people who think differently about the work of the government. The president also criticized the PT government, which, according to him, has “the regime marked by lies and robberies”.
“Now, what does everyone need to do, what is the help they need to do? First, thanks for visiting here. It’s talking to someone who has something else on their mind. It’s no use staying between us”, declared.
