In the protection of children, ID.5 scored 89%. This assessment is based on three important aspects: in addition to the protection provided by child restraint systems in the event of a frontal or side collision, the focus is also on the options for securely attaching child seats of different sizes and the equipment that a vehicle offers for the safe transportation of children. Polo (80%) and Taigo (84%) also scored very well in this criterion. In the field of assistance systems, the ID.5 was particularly convincing with 85% of the points. In this category, the Taigo and the Polo obtained a score of 70%. All models come standard with, among other things, driver fatigue detection, the Front Assist system with city emergency braking and pedestrian detection, as well as the Lane Departure Warning System. In the case of the ID.5, the visual and audible reminders of the front seat belts and the detection of the occupancy of the seats in the second row were considered in this category and evaluated positively.
In addition to occupant protection, Euro NCAP tests also evaluate the capability of automatic emergency braking systems to protect vulnerable road users (pedestrians and cyclists) in the event of an imminent collision. According to the Euro NCAP, the standard Front Assist on the ID.5, Taigo and Polo is able to conveniently detect these road users. This front monitoring system uses a radar sensor and a camera to detect critical situations and helps to reduce the stopping distance. In dangerous situations, the system warns those behind the wheel visually, acoustically and with a brake stroke, and is also able to intervene with automatic braking in the event. In the protection of pedestrians and cyclists, the ID.5 obtained a score of 76%, with slightly lower results for the Taigo (71%) and Polo (70%).
