TPS extended their streak of home victories through the winning goal contest.
Turku The ball club’s streak of home victories continued on Friday in the hockey league, when the team beat Tappara 2–1 after a tight and even fight.
The decision stretched to a winning goal contest, where Mikael Wipes and Arttu Ilomäki managed to surprise Tappara’s goalkeeper Vilho Heikkinen. The victory was already the seventh for Turku this season in the home arena.
“We got a valuable victory in a tight game, where there were several opportunities for goals. We kept up well with Tappara’s pace, and our defense worked like a model again”, rejoiced the head coach of TPS Jussi Ahokas.
Antti Tuomisto led the home team to the lead with a hard shot at the end of the second period. Tappara had two top places in the race, but Jere Henriksson’s of the drive-through and Kristian Tanunsen however, the visiting team’s Goal Account was not opened due to the penalty.
In the third in the set, Tappara’s pressure paid off, and Mikael Seppälä brought the visitors level in the middle of the set with his opening hit of the season.
An even game brought Tappara’s head coach Jussi Tapolan reminds me of last spring’s final battles.
“You could feel the atmosphere of the championship fight. There were chances to create, but Teps’ defense kept us well under control,” Tapola summed up.
