NHL club The Columbus Blue Jackets remembered their player who died tragically at the age of 31 Johnny Gaudreau warmly in their first home game of the season.
Hockey player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew29, died at the end of August while cycling in New Jersey. They were hit by an SUV driver.
In their first home game of the regular season, the Blue Jackets raised a banner with Gaudreau’s name and game number 13 on the ceiling. Gaudreau’s family watched the situation on the ice.
At the start of the game, the Blue Jackets and the visiting Florida Panthers honored Gaudreau by running 13 seconds off the clock before the game actually started. Columbus had four players on the ice at the time – the left winger spot was reserved for Gaudreau.
The audience gave Gaudreau a standing ovation. Cries of “Love you, Johnny” began to echo in the arena. Fans held back their tears. Also the head coach of Columbus Dean Evason moved to tears.
An emotional moment was also seen during the match, when Gaudreau’s best friend, who moved to Columbus for this season Sean Monahan managed to score in his first home game in a Blue Jackets shirt.
Monahan dedicated his goal to Gaudreau by pointing to the pennant raised in the stands.
Florida won the emotional match 4-3. The Finns were effective: Anton Lundell did powers 1+1, Eetu Luostarinen onnisted in scoring and Niko Mikkola recorded two assists.
Sebastian Ahon and Jesperi Kotkaniemi The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the fierce New Jersey Devils at home 4–2. Aho scored his first goal of the season into an empty net at the end of the third period. Kotkaniemi got one assist.
Dallas Stars Roope Hintz finished with a one-hitter as the Texans edged San Jose 3-2. The Nashville Predators’ bad start to the season continued when the Seattle Kraken came out on top Juuse Saros as many as seven hits into the net. The Kraken beat the Predators 7–3.
