The fiscal impact of the company’s economic activity carried out in the Region last year was approximately 100 million euros and investments reached 79 million euros.
In this regard, it should be noted that, during this period alone, Iberdrola made purchases and contracted services from more than 160 Murcian suppliers for an approximate value of 64 million euros. The company’s economic activity in the Region is due to the approximately 300 people who work in the Community.
Networks adapted to the energy transition
i-DE, Iberdrola’s electricity distribution company, plans to invest more than 170 million euros in smart grids in the Region of Murcia between 2022 and 2024, with the aim of reactivating the economy and employment and achieving the decarbonisation objectives committed to in the PNIEC.
The transformation of networks into a robust, flexible and intelligent infrastructure makes it possible to respond to the challenges of electrification of the electrical system, with a greater integration of renewables, the development of sustainable mobility, smart cities and self-consumption, as well as allowing the consumer greater decision-making capacity and connectivity.
An example of this is the pioneering project installed by the company in Caravaca de la Cruz, which brought numerous advantages to improve the quality of the surrounding electricity supply. It is a recently expanded battery-powered electrical energy storage system that allows the voltage of the network to be regulated and to avoid incidents in the service.
In recent years i-DE undertook an ambitious plan to digitize its electrical networks which, in the Community, where it converted its more than 900,000 meters and the infrastructure that supports them into smart ones, incorporating remote management, supervision and automation capabilities.
In the Region of Murcia, it manages more than 28,000 kilometers of low and medium voltage lines and approximately 1,500 km of high and very high voltage lines. Likewise, it has 9,600 transformation centers in service and 69 substations.
sustainable projects
Iberdrola continues to consolidate its investment efforts in the Region in new sustainable projects that allow it to continue fighting climate change and improving sustainability.
The company advances in the agreement with SABIC for the purchase and sale of long-term renewable energy (PPA) by which it will invest, build and operate one of the largest photovoltaic solar projects for on-site self-consumption in the world, a 100-megawatt (MW) facility that It will be located on the grounds of SABIC’s industrial plant, which it will supply for 25 years with green electricity.
In addition, in order to achieve a progressive decarbonisation of the economy, the company works in different sectors such as transport, air conditioning and industry, to provide them with solutions adapted to their characteristics. Hence the alliances sealed with Juver Alimentación, for the installation of solar self-consumption in its Churra factory, or the different conventions and agreements signed with companies and sectoral organizations in the Region.
In the section on sustainable mobility, Iberdrola continues with the installation and start-up of recharging points for electric vehicles in the Community, where it exceeded one hundred, all of them powered by 100% green energy from renewable generation sources, which are operations in the Iberdrola Public Recharge mobile application. In addition, the company has signed an agreement with Grupo Huertas that will allow it to continue expanding its number of charging stations in the Region and provide new users of electric vehicles with charging solutions.
The company is also promoting the creation of a green hydrogen corridor in the Mediterranean area, which includes the construction of a hydroelectric plant in Murcia that will allow the production and supply of this renewable energy source for heavy transport and thus advance towards an increasingly more sustainable and free of emissions, as well as developing jointly with Disfrimur the implementation of an innovative charging infrastructure of very high power for electric trucks.
Investments
Iberdrola accelerates its investments in the community, aimed at the deployment of renewable projects, electric mobility and self-consumption, to continue accelerating the energy transition.
