The director of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, will travel this week to kyiv and Moscow to continue negotiating the creation of a security zone around the Ukrainian atomic power plant in Zaporizhia (ZNPP), occupied by Russia and subjected to bombardments that cause the risk of a nuclear accident.

“Director General Grossi will travel to kyiv and then to Moscow later this week to continue his consultations with a view to agreeing and putting in place a nuclear security protection zone around the ZNPP as soon as possible,” he said on Tuesday. a statement from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
This UN agency has been denouncing for months the risk of a nuclear accident at the Zaporizhia plant, the largest in Europe, due to the situation created by the Russian occupation and because the facility is in a war zone and has been subject to numerous explosions and shelling.
Grossi has already been in contact with the Russian and Ukrainian authorities and last week he was willing to travel to the two countries to discuss the creation of that protection zone.

In that note, the IAEA indicated that the two Agency experts who are on a permanent mission at the plant have confirmed that the tank in the area of reactors 5 and 6, which was damaged in a bombing on September 20, has already been repaired. .

The UN agency notes that there have been no more explosions at the plant since last October 1.
The IAEA also indicates that the director of the plant, Ihor Murashov, who was released after spending several days in detention, is with his family in territory controlled by
Ukraine, and that there is no information on who will replace him at the head of the facility.
The Ukrainian state nuclear energy company Energoatom denounced that Murashov was detained last Friday by a Russian patrol.
