The UN agency delivered on Tuesday the report of its visit to the Ukrainian plant.

The UN nuclear agency called on Tuesday to establish a “security zone” around the Ukrainian plant in Zaporizhia and warned that the situation is “unsustainable” at the plant, occupied by Russian troops and the theater of recent fighting.

“The situation is unsustainable” at that plant, warns the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in a 52-page report.

“It is urgent to take provisional measures,” such as “the establishment of a nuclear security and protection zone,” he adds.

“The bombardments in the place and in the surroundings must stop immediately to avoid further damage to the facilities,” insists the IAEA, which is “willing to start consultations.”

The agency also points to the “extremely stressful conditions” in which Ukrainian personnel work, under the control of Russian troops.

For weeks, confusion has reigned around the Zaporizhia power plant, the largest in Europe, which has suffered multiple attacks of which kyiv and Moscow accuse each other.

An IAEA delegation was able to visit the facilities last Thursday. Two inspectors will remain on site permanently.
