In a statement on Facebook, the Tunisian Ministry of Interior stated that the young woman was arrested at Tunis-Carthage airport on January 10, while she was on her way from Turkey.
According to the source, the arrest took place after information was received by the General Department of the competent national security services about the intention of a twenty-two-year-old young woman to carry out a terrorist attack.
When investigating the arrested woman, she revealed that she had traveled to Turkey in the summer of 2020, and then moved in 2021 to Syria with the help of a Syrian national, where she joined one of the terrorist organizations there and began receiving training in order to prepare her for a suicide operation.
Investigations concluded that the arrested woman had been prepared to carry out a suicide attack in Tunisia in one of the tourist areas, and during her stay in Syria she had contact with a Tunisian person who was to wait for her to arrive in Tunisia and enable her to wear an explosive belt.
When investigating her partner in the operation, it was found that he was a terrorist element who was recently imprisoned for his involvement in planning and preparing terrorist operations that were to target prominent state officials at the end of the past year.
After the research was concluded, the person concerned was referred to the Public Prosecution at the Anti-Terrorism Judicial Pole, and a prison deposit card was issued in this regard, amid continuing research.
