A surprise renewal
Although the solid link between Fabio Quartararo and Yamaha, few expected a renewal of the contract expiring at the end of 2024, at least in an early phase of the world championship. The M1 seen in these first two world championship events did not provide the long-awaited shock, given that Quartararo was only able to report 7th place in Portimao as his best result.
But the Frenchman saw further and wanted renew trust to his team, for example the next two years.
Happiness Yamaha
Yamaha is leaving no stone unturned to try to get back into the positions that count, but having sorted out the Quartararo situation is a further sign of its desire for recovery, as told by Lin Jarvisgeneral manager of the team: “We are very happy that Fabio remains a Yamaha rider, keeping him with us was one integral part of the MotoGP project. We are talking about an exceptional talent, a great worker, a great team man with many years of career still ahead of him.”
Jarvis then added: “Yamaha Motor Company, Yamaha Motor Racing and the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team they are sparing no effort to guarantee a bright future for Fabio, adopting a more 'aggressive' approach to the development of the bike. We have already made significant changes to our organisation, including a new internal management system, the recruitment of the best industry skills, new external technical partnerships, an increased development budget and an intensified testing programme. All of these changes are designed to speed up the process of returning to victory. Fabio understood this commitment and this gave him the confidence to decide to stay with us in the coming years”.
