Franco di Mare reveals his illness on live TV for the first time
April 28 is World Safety and Health at Work Day and in honor of this anniversary, Fabio Fazio has invited some special guests to his program. Fazio's program “Che Tempo che Fa” is broadcast this evening on La Nove, among the guests there is also the journalist Franco di Mare.
Franco di Mare, 68 years old, former war correspondent and television host, spoke this evening during Fabio Fazio's program. The journalist fights with a very aggressive tumor, a mesothelioma, which has been forcing him to breathe with the aid of a respirator for some time. During his intervention, the visibly distressed man recounts his experience and launches a criticism of Rai.
“I have a very bad tumor. This little tube that runs over my face is a little tube connected to an automatic respirator and allows me to breathe forcedly, but it allows me to be here to tell stories, to talk to you. I got mesothelioma, a very bad cancer, linked to the presence of asbestos in the air and you get it by breathing in asbestos particles.”
Asbestos it is a material that has currently been removed from the market, but in the past it was commonly used in construction. Over the years many buildings have been reclaimed to make them compliant with the law. Precisely for this reason Franco di Mare asked the Rai a list of all the places you have visited for work. The journalist says that after his request, the entire network turned its back on him.
“I can also understand that there may be legal and trade union reasons, what I don't understand is the human level. They disappeared, denied on the phone, to me, as if I were a beggar, and when faced with such an attitude I find only one adjective: Repugnant!”
Franco specifies that his problem is not linked to the current management of Rai but to previous years. A truly touching interview full of pain but also anger.
