The victim claims he does not understand how it is possible that his alleged aggressor was released without wearing a telematic control bracelet
“I feel that Justice is not protecting me.” It is María Ramos, the Lorca woman who in 2017 allegedly suffered a brutal attack by her former partner, who makes this statement, which is still a full-fledged complaint. This victim of gender violence, on whose face the scars left by the innumerable blows she received with a paving stone can still be clearly seen, claims she does not understand how the alleged perpetrator of the attack can walk freely “without a telematic bracelet that serves to guarantee that he will not come near me.
The suspect, Ángel RP, has been imprisoned for four years, since he was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the savage attack, but last September he took to the streets after one of the appeals presented by his lawyer before the Provincial Court of Murcia.
The criminal prosecutor Melecio Castaño, who exercises the private accusation on behalf of María, explains that at first, on the occasion of the resolution of the first appeal, the court set a bond for the alleged abuser and, in addition, imposed the obligation to carry a telematics bracelet if released.
This resolution did not take effect, since Ángel RP did not pay the bail, for which he remained imprisoned. When his lawyer filed a new appeal, the Hearing reproduced all the arguments and the same measures of that first resolution.
However, with the third appeal, the court established a lower bail, which the suspect did pay, but the resolution had eliminated the obligation to carry a telematic control device.
“I honestly do not understand the reason why this measure was withdrawn, which seems to me elementary to guarantee the safety of my client. Much less in a matter of this seriousness, “said Melecio Castaño, who acknowledges that few times throughout his professional career has he faced” a degree of violence such as that suffered by this woman. ”
For that reason, and in response to María’s wish that no agreement be reached on the penalty to be imposed, Castaño assured that “I will use all the legal resources that are in my power to try to obtain the highest sentence that is possible”.
