The former Amici finalist expresses a reflection on social media about his “behavioral disorder”
Over the last few hours the name of Mattia Briga, protagonist of the 14th edition of “Friends” by Maria De Filippi, has returned to occupy ample space in the pages of the main crime newspapers. The reason? The former student of the most well-known school in Italy made an unexpected statement regarding his mental health conditions; the announcement was made through his social account. Let’s find out together what happened in detail.
Most people know Mattia Brig for being one of the finalists of the 14th edition of Friends Of Maria De Filippi. Following his participation in the talent show, the singer has never shied away from the spotlight of the entertainment world and, recently, he captured the attention of the web due to a shocking statement shared on his Instagram profile. As already anticipated, the former student of the Amici di Maria De Filippi school indulged in a very important private revelation that attracted everyone’s attention. Mattia Briga has in fact revealed through his social accounts that he has a behavioral disorder.
In detail, the runner-up of Friends spoke about a social phenomenon very widespread but underestimated. We’re talking about “FOMO”. It is the fear of being excluded from social contexts and events. A form of social anxiety which consists of compulsively experiencing the terror of being cut off from experiences and which, in addition to affecting the majority of adolescents, also affects many adults, including Briga.
The latter, through his social account, declared that he had become aware of this “behavioral disorder“, as it has been defined by some psychologists, and having experienced it in the past:
I will have lived this life for years. I never wanted to miss a party, hanging out in the square or outside school. And even if nothing was done, the later I did it, the happier I was. The important thing was to be together and smoke your life. Only now that I have calmed down and am aware of the existence of this disorder, am I sure that I had it. And that this was master of me for a long time.
Finally, the former student of Friends by Maria De Filippi concluded her speech by expressing one of her own personal reflection regarding the labels and habits of young people in today’s social context. These were his words:
Now, my reflection is this. Luckily I have always been more or less at peace with my head and I have always believed that everything I have done has contributed to forming my character and my culture. But if I had known 20 years ago that I had some sort of
behavioral “pathology”, would this awareness have helped me? Are we sure? Would someone try to act on me? Don’t you think it’s a stretch in recent times to have to diagnose, label, psychoanalyze and exaggerate people’s natural behaviors? Especially boys? Don’t you think that there is an abuse of syndromes, disorders and so on and that they are diagnosed too simply?
As already written above, the disorder Mattia Briga talks about is la FOMO. In detail, it is a form of anxiety that is generated in the social sphere especially when one is afraid of being excluded from rewarding events or situations. According to what has emerged, it seems that this disorder is currently diagnosed mainly in adolescents.
