Sammy Basso died in his mother’s arms: “I can’t breathe”
Sammy Basso, the 28-year-old suffering from progeria, a rare disease that causes premature aging, died in his mother’s arms.
This is what he writes Corriere della Sera which traces the last moments of Sammy Basso’s life. The 28-year-old was in the restaurant of Villa Razzolini Loredan in Asolo, in the province of Treviso, to celebrate the wedding of a couple of friends.
“Around 11pm he told some friends that he wasn’t feeling well” some witnesses said. “I can’t breathe” said Sammy Basso, who then went outside to get some air.
The young man walked for a while in the garden of the villa and took the path that leads to the road: it was precisely there that he suffered the fatal illness.
The friends, immediately understanding the gravity of the situation, immediately alerted 118 and tried to resuscitate Sammy by giving him cardiac massage.
“We only realized what had happened when we saw the ambulance arrive – said Elena Dussin, the owner’s daughter – It was our friends who raised the alarm. We had two weddings, more than 200 people in total.”
Despite attempts to resuscitate him, the doctors could not help but confirm the death of the 28-year-old with his mother hugging her son for a long time when he was already lifeless.
