As is well known, the automotive sector is advancing in terms of technology, whether in the mechanical section, with the new, more capable electric cars, as well as in the area of information and entertainment. Especially in the latter, screens are taking on a greater role with increasingly generous sizes and more connectivity functionalities. However, for many, this section may be getting a little out of hand. For this reason Hyundai affirms that it will continue to innovate in thisalthough under very strict margins.
This has been confirmed by the head of Hyundai Design, SangYup Leein a recent interview with the media Coach. “The most important thing is to have an interior touch screen with the correct size. This will always be better than making it as big as possible,” he assured. In this way, the person in charge confirmed that they are currently developing a new generation of larger touch screens, although these will be mainly marked by the logic of use.
Hyundai doesn’t want excessive touch screens
“The right size is important so that the screen can be easily seen and read. Having the right content is also important, as is the user experience,” said the manager. This is something that many brands sometimes forget, because the size of the panels is taking completely exorbitant channelsthus reaching the point of being difficult to handle, especially while driving.
Lee affirms that Hyundai does not seek to reach the sizes presented by other rival brands, such as Mercedes with its Hyperscreen, for example. In fact, the Korean firm continues to value the adoption of physical buttons for certain crucial functions and, in particular, those that are “related to security or frequently used.” To do this, these buttons must be located in “easy to use and natural angle” positions to be able to keep your eyes on the road.
On the other hand, Lee admitted that concept vehicles tend to distort the logic of what future models should be. However, he did assure that these are still important to “move forward and show that we have a mission.” Likewise, among its strengths are that “the production version of these must be equally good or better. Concept cars are a commitment to fulfill, not to make you live in the world of dreams.”
Let us remember that, although Hyundai aspires to be very logical in the information and entertainment section in its next launches, the truth is that just a few weeks ago they also admitted that their ultimate goal was to completely eliminate the screens from the dashboards.
The solution to this will come from the well-known projection systems on the front windshield, that is, the Head-Up Display. With this, Hyundai aims to incorporate more data on the front window, which will mean that the driver does not have to look away from the asphalt to obtain crucial information, such as driving data, navigation instructions or the radio station tuned to that moment. .
