After Ioniq 5, Hyundai has taken a liking to us with inspirations from the past. In fact, in South Korea a special model linked to the eighties, and to the progenitor of the family, was unveiled Grandeur. It is an electric restomod of the sedan launched in 1986, and particularly ‘American’ in the lines. The makeover has given a new face to the Grandeur model in the period in which the 35th anniversary of its launch is celebrated, while keeping intact the ‘square’ shapes that distinguish it.
The Grandeur EV Heritage operation was carried out by Motorstudio, Hyundai department based in Busan, and comes as a result of the Pony EV Heritage project.
On the car there are several elements borrowed from the Ioniq 5 and the latest electrified cars of the Korean brand. The bumpers have been simplified in shape, while the headlights have acquired the Pixel Led system. The grille now has a brushed aluminum finish. Inside the original car has been completely redone, with brand new seats and dashboard with different displays. The horizontal ones are placed side by side, and allow you to observe the vehicle data and the infotainment system; another, vertical, is placed in place of the secondary controls. And it has a configuration similar to that of the keys on a piano. It also contains a built-in soundbar, which works in conjunction with an 18-speaker sound system to produce “concert hall-like” acoustics.
The steering wheel and gearbox are also perfectly integrated into the electric technology. The armrest between the front seats conceals a secret glove box, with the metal gear selector sticking out of the center console. The cabin is finished with a combination of wood and glossy materials. For now, there are no details on the battery and on the basic ‘performance’ of this restomod, certainly an example of how tributes to vintage cars can be made without distorting the external appearance and in the meantime distorting the internal one.
