The epicenter of the weather phenomenon was located south-southwest of Marquelia, situated just 10 km east of Copala and 40 km northwest of Punta Maldonado. With sustained winds of 195 km/h and gusts reaching 220 km/h, John has generated a maximum alert scenario in the region.
Authorities, in coordination with the National Hurricane Center in Miami (CMRE), have implemented a hurricane prevention zone from east of Acapulco, Guerrero, to Huatulco Bay, Oaxaca. At the same time, a tropical storm watch zone has been activated, extending to Salina Cruz, Oaxaca. The speed of the meteorological phenomenon is 13 km/h in a northerly direction.
Conagua warned that the hurricane’s cloud bands are causing Extraordinary rainfall, exceeding 250 mm, in Guerrero and Oaxacawhich increases the risk of flooding and landslides.
