The 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix never ends and looks like a worthy emblem of the incredible season that Formula 1 is experiencing. The latest twist – for the moment more formal than substantial – is provided direct by the FIA and its official documents. Yesterday, late in the evening, the disqualification of Sebastian Vettel, due to the impossibility of taking a fuel sample of at least one liter from his car. Afterwards, Aston Martin presented complaint against this decision. At this point the Federation published the results of the Grand Prix and – surprise – Vettel was still in second position.
No mistake, though. The explanation of everything comes thanks to the footnote. The results of the race in fact for the moment remain sub-judges, pending a ruling on the Aston Martin appeal. The four-time world champion therefore, at least for the moment, remains formally second. Consequently, all the world rankings must also be reviewed, with Hamilton ‘returning’ to +6 on Verstappen, losing the two points he would have obtained with the definitive disqualification of Vettel. Not surprisingly, while on the social channels F1 has released the championship rankings considering the exclusion of the former Ferrari driver, on the official website of the Circus Aston Martin # 5 is still credited with the 18 points of second place.
Specifically, Aston Martin’s appeal is unlikely to be accepted. Rule 6.6.2 of the Technical Regulations requires marshals to analyze a physical sample of the fuel. The Silverstone team should therefore find a way to extract the minimum quantity required, to assert its reasons. Until the moment of the publication of the final classification, however, Vettel remains in effect the runner-up of the Hungarian GP. Consequently also up here FormulaPassion.it the rankings will be updated according to this result, at least until the final decision on the appeal.
