Hundreds of people manifest in nine Catalan cities against “chaos” in Rodalies

This Saturday, hundreds of people have demonstrated in a unitary and decentralized call against “chaos” in Rodalies. The ‘Dignitat A Les Vies’ platform has called to concentrate before the stations of Tarragona, Valls, Tortosa, Segura de Calafell, Lleida, Figueres, Cardedu, La Garriga and Molins de Rei.

Since 12, attendees have appeared on the roads or in front of the buildings of the stations to claim “a decent service and infrastructure made for citizenship.” This call closes a week that began with the news of the reconvocation of strike announced by Renfe’s machinists, in protest to the transfer of competencies to the Generalitat. The strike would have canceled thousands of trains throughout Spain and would have caused important delays. But, despite its cancellation, Rodalies has experienced a few days of affectations and incidents in diverse of its ways. In addition, there have also been problems in high -speed trains, especially affecting the line that goes from Barcelona to Madrid.

In fact, one of the most massive concentrations has been in Figueres, where a seventies of people have concentrated on the station to protest against “the constant delays” and the “lack of investments.” Attendees have denounced that, without going any further, this week they have experienced delays of more than three hours in the trains that go from Barcelona to Figueres. Many of them have recognized that they have “thrown the towel” with public transport and have decided to move to the private vehicle to move.

This Saturday, in fact, there have also been various incidents. One of them in lines R14, R15, R16 and R17, precisely those that go to the Sant Vicenç de Calders station, one of the municipalities where the concentration had been convened. The accumulated delays have caused some protesters to have not been able to go to the protest.

The spokeswoman for Dignitat to Les Vies, Anna Gómez, has warned the rulers that they must “put the batteries” and assured that “the next action will not be railway, it will be mobility. We are becoming second citizens”, as they said in statements to RAC1, pointing to the possibility of expanding the call to “bus platforms” AP7 ”, groups with which, he says, they have already contacted.

Several leaders of different formations have made an appearance in some of the protests. David Cid, spokesman for the commons in the Parliament, has moved to Molins de Rei, from where he has shaved the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, who has an eye on the expansion of the airport “while the country’s trains are a tartana and half a million Catalans are trapped every day in the platforms.”

For its part, the general secretary of ERC, Elisenda Alamany, has claimed from Tarragona a “integral 100% to Catalonia” transfer to end “the endemic evil” of Rodalies. He has denounced that the current service is “a damn shame” that makes the Catalans “Second Citizens.” He has also taken the opportunity to point out the “historical” divestment by the government, remembering that between 2015 and 2022 only one third of promised investments have been executed.
