The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation stressed the necessity of employers’ commitment to pay wages to their workers on their due dates and as agreed upon in the work contract, through the wage protection system.
This came in accordance with a ministerial decision in implementation of the Federal Decree-Law on regulating labor relations and its executive regulations, in the context of strengthening protection in the labor market, which contributes to increasing the attractiveness and productivity of the market and the stability of the contractual labor relationship, which is one of the most important objectives of the legislative system of the labor market.
The director of the Ministry’s Inspection Systems Department, Mohsen Al-Nassi, said that the worker’s receipt of his wages on the due date and to the extent agreed upon in the work contract is one of the rights that employers must fulfill.
He called on employers to fully comply with the payment of wages to workers in their facilities through the wage protection system, which operates under an electronic mechanism that facilitates the payment of wages, through a strategic partnership with the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates.
Al-Nassi said that according to the ministerial decision, the ministry has developed a methodology that includes gradual procedures towards establishments that are not committed to paying wages on time through the wage protection system, according to the periods of delay in payment, the size of the facility, and the number and percentage of unpaid workers.
He pointed to the importance of the electronic monitoring and inspection system in the ministry in terms of following up on establishments to ensure that they are paid wages, especially by carrying out field visits to non-compliant establishments and urging their owners to pay wages through the system.
