Human remains were found on Tuesday at a business park in Hoorn, Noord-Holland, in the investigation into the missing student Sumanta Bansi, who went missing. the Public Prosecution Service (OM) reports. The Public Prosecution Service said that the site was searched in response to information provided by 42-year-old convict Manodj B. In July he was sentenced to fifteen years in prison for killing Bansi and disposing of her body. The court found him guilty, although a body was never found. An appeal is pending in the case.
The police have searched for Bansi’s remains several times in recent years, but time and time again nothing has been found. Now further investigation must show whether the human remains belong to Bansi, according to the Public Prosecution Service. In the interest of the investigation, the judiciary will not make any further statements.
Turbulent living environment
In 2016 Bansi came to the Netherlands from Suriname to study biomedical sciences at the University of Amsterdam. She lived in the family of the convicted B. in Hoorn, together with his wife, their child and B.’s father. The police file of the case showed that there was a turbulent living environment with tense mutual relationships.
Bansi, who lived an isolated life and spent a lot of time at home, had a sexual relationship with B. In 2017, she became pregnant with him, after which she ended the pregnancy under pressure from the family. In February 2018 she turned out to be pregnant again. Shortly afterwards she disappeared. B. and his 65-year-old father went to the police themselves to report that Sumanta has not returned from a week’s vacation.
Only after Bansi’s mother sounded the alarm in November 2018, the judiciary started to regard the case as a worrying missing person and the police started an extensive investigation, which led to the arrest and conviction of B..
