Despite everyone in the Formula 1 paddock talking about it more than well, even in 2021 Nico Hulkenberg he had to settle for the role of third driver and test driver dividing himself between Aston Martin and Mercedes. The German driver, who has fooled everyone in his three appearances in 2020 with the Racing Point replacing the two owners, has not found space for this season but is strongly aiming for a return as a protagonist for the new course of the top flight.
In fact, there are many rumors that see him as a protagonist of the market, with Williams team principal Jost Capito who did not exclude thinking of him for the possible replacement of George Russell. At the moment, however, there are no certainties and Hulkenberg continues to look to other categories to return to experience the thrill of fighting wheel to wheel in formula series.
At the top of the extra-F1 list is obviously the IndyCar, which in recent years has collected many old acquaintances from the top flight (the last was Romain Grosjean). In a recent interview with Motorsport-Total, team owner Ed Carpenter revealed that he is in talks with the 33-year-old German.
“I’ve talked to Nico several times over the past year and a half – said Carpenter – I think he’s definitely interested in coming here to try out the IndyCar, at least in a test. I think he and many other riders were even more interested in why they saw what Romain Grosjean did and how much fun he is having here. Many people have opened their eyes and seen what their options really are ”.
