“The son” is the second film in Florian Zeller’s mental health trilogy. like the movie With which he debuted, The Father (2020), which received six Academy Award nominations (he won for Best Leading Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay), The Son is based on a play that premiered in Paris in 2018.
Hugh Jackman leads the cast of this film that is already on the Peruvian billboard. “I had seen ‘The father’ and I loved it from start to finish. I thought it was a job out of the ordinary. I was amazed that it was Florian’s first film as a director. When I heard about the movie version of The Son, I wrote to the director and applied to play the part.” The actor confessed in a special shipment for La República.
“The Son” centers on Peter (Hugh Jackman), whose hectic life with his baby and new partner, Beth (Vanessa Kirby), takes a turn when his ex-wife Kate (Laura Dern) shows up with their son, Nicholas. (Zen McGrath) that he is now a troubled, distant teenager who has just dropped out of school.
About Peter, his character, he says that he investigated many aspects of his life. “Obviously the mental health issues that Nicholas is going through. I also researched real life second marriage stories (how children from the first marriage integrate into a new marriage). Every time I compose a new character, I immerse myself in a different reality”.
He adds that “a large part of “El hijo” has to do with how the damage we suffered in our childhood is repeated over and over again. “Trauma is like a fire that goes through generations and generations, unless you have the courage to really stop it and understand what happened.”
He actor Australian, 54, also spoke about the film’s approach to the dilemmas we face in adult life. “Florian has a brilliant ability to make you see how difficult these decisions are. How do you balance work and home life? All people do their best. Sometimes, they deal with the way they were raised; sometimes they deal with the society in which they live; sometimes, they deal with a situation that they have never been through and they feel that they are alone… I hope and wish that the public stays with this message: the same things happen to us”.
The cast, as in “The Father”, includes the great actor Anthony Hopkins.
