The British actor Hugh Grant was the guest this Thursday at El Hormiguero, where he presented his new film, Hereticwhich opens in theaters on January 3.
After speaking with Pablo Motos about the film, the interpreter told the Valencian how he created his characters: “I spend months creating the world of the character, I invent his childhood, his parents, his traumas…”.
“I write a kind of biography that I soak up. I ask the directors a lot of questions about my character and the reason for his behavior,” he said.
The British also highlighted about the roles he plays that “I always feel anxiety while I prepare my characters, in fact my first last name is worry.”
“In the end, in my job you expose yourself in front of a global audience and that makes you wake up in the middle of the night very worried. It has been difficult for me to disconnect from the character,” he said, referring to Heretic.
“Would you say that an actor feels empty if he stays stuck in the same roles?” asked the host of the Antena 3 program. “Yes, I stayed too long doing romantic comedy,” he admitted.
“The truth is that I am very proud of my comedies, except for two or three that are very bad. But now, that I am too old to do romantic comedies, they are offering me these monster roles and I am enjoying them a lot, I am right where I wanted to be there,” he noted.
But if there is a role that marked a before and after in the artist’s career, it was that of Charles in Four Weddings and a Funeral: “That role was inspired by the person who wrote it. Then it was so successful that I got a little stuck there”.
Motos also wanted to know what the worst thing was about doing a promotion and a world tour. “Being on tour is not as hard as it seems. Everyone treats you very well, they take you out to dinner at fantastic places, you get drunk, you stay in wonderful hotels,” the guest confessed.
“The really hard thing is when you have to promote a movie that you know perfectly well is very bad and everyone around you knows it too. It’s happened to me and it’s complicated,” he concluded.
