The Hamburger SV has gotten back on track after a good start to the season. After the last two draws, the team of head coach Daniel Thioune conceded against the on Sunday afternoon VfL Bochum the first loss of the current league season. The Hamburgers offered a shockingly poor performance.
‘And the marmot greets you every day’ is a fortune cookie saying that HSV has had enough of by now. And yet the third season in the 2nd Bundesliga seems to be taking the same weird course for the Elbstadt-based team: the inexplicable cut follows an actually good start to the season and the feeling that the team is doing justice to the promotion favorites this time.
This season Daniel Thioune, successful coach from VfL Osnabrück, is trying his hand at the mission of resurgence with HSV. Thioune seems to be at the end of his game for the time being: after two weak draws against St. Pauli and Kiel, it was the first defeat in the 2nd Bundesliga against VfL Bochum on Sunday. The pursuers are back on the red trousers’ necks and although the table leadership is still in place, HSV is currently simply no longer playing promotional football.
One of the pursuers is VfL Bochum, which climbed to fourth place in the tableau thanks to the 3-1 success over HSV. For the Ruhrpöttler Robert Zulj, Danny Blum and Raman Chibsah met, at HSV Simon Terrodde put himself on the scoreboard with a penalty.
While VfL is looking up, HSV now has to look around. The performance of the past few weeks suggests something bad, the downward trend must be stopped as soon as possible. Daniel Thioune and his team are now challenged to turn things around again and maintain the championship lead. Otherwise, the people of Elbstadt are threatened by the daily greeting marmot and the question of why the former Bundesliga dinosaur simply cannot rise.
