The office of the President of the Republic confirmed in the afternoon that the president Sauli Niinistö had American guests for a short visit. Niinistö also tweeted a picture of the meeting.
Niinistö met a number of American senators and members of the House of Representatives. The meeting was not marked on the president’s public calendar.
The office of the President of the Republic later said in a press release that the topics of discussion at the meeting were, among other things, US support for Finland’s NATO membership and Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine.
In his tweet, the president stated that “support for Finland is unwavering”.
According to information from HS Turku, the American delegation consisted of a few dozen people. The Americans continue their journey from Turku to Sweden next.
