Turku There is a dangerous social media phenomenon among young people in the region, the police in Southwest Finland say in a press release.

Police in southwestern Finland are currently investigating individual assaults on the phenomenon. The youngest known to the police are 13 years old.

“As a result of the phenomenon, a number of young people have been subjected, partly consciously, partly involuntarily, to unpleasant attention, offensive comments and crimes,” the release said.

Police recalls in the press release that young people can commit crimes in many ways.

Police recall that the possession and distribution of sexually explicit material representing a minor is always illegal. Police are urging young people to remove such material.

“If a young person is in possession of such material, the prosecutor may demand that the equipment containing the material, such as the young person’s cell phone, be owned by the state in the course of a criminal investigation,” the statement said.
